Sci Fi London

We have just about recovered from taking part in the Sci Fi London 48 hour competition. It was two weeks ago but it is still really hard to talk about *sobs*.
Only kidding! It was really really hard work but also loads of fun and everyone involved put in a huge amount of effort to turn out a great finished film in such a short space of time.
The brief arrived at 1030 on Sat and the finished film was set uploading almost exactly 48 ours later by which time the sleep depravation combined with a diet of pistachio nuts, coffee and Old Thumper was really beginning to show.

Of the 100+ films that were submitted 20 made the shortlist but unfortunately outs wasn't among them. We are still dead proud of our submission though and learnt a huge amount that we will keep in mind for next year.

Please take 5 mins to check out our film 'A Certain Sense' and keep an eye on our YouTube channel for more in the near future.

Another Comp Another Win!

After another long silence we are back with another nugget of exciting news (for us at least). Our last project for 2011 was a competition run by Mike Marlin to find a director for his next music video. He supplied four songs for entrants to make videos for and in a burst of energy and enthusiasm we decided to make three in three weeks.
With no budget, little planning and actors and crew kindly giving up their weekends to go along with our slightly weird concepts we managed to finish three very different videos of styles we have not really tried out before (alright, there was one zombie offering but we are all slaves to our roots right?) and we have just learned that our bearded, balloon modelling, striptease concept for the song Girl From Chelsea Bridge has been selected for a prize!
We don't know exactly what we have won yet and will only find out when we attend the album launch in a few weeks time but rest assured as soon as we know we will be shouting about it here.
Until then you can check out the winning video here as well as our other two offerings, the zombie based Steve McQueen and the feel good, fortune cookie based Left Behind.
We hope you enjoy them.

Return From Margate

We just got back from the 2 Days Later 2011 film festival in Margate and once again it proved to be a really good event and great night all round.
The standard of entries this year was high and every one of the thirteen shortlisted films had something going for it. The focus this year seemed to be much more on tension and style than on blood and guts and this made for some really interesting ideas that were genuinely creepy and well executed.

At last years festival our entry, Dead Time, won Best Gore and Best Visual Effect which we was brilliant. This year we barely even used any blood so were interested to see which categories (if any) we got nominated for we are really pleased to report that we won Best Cinematography, got a nomination for Best Edit and our leading lady, Ellie Moore, got a nomination for Best Actress.

All in all it was a really good night and has got us talking about next years entry already.
Our prizewinning entry from this year is now up on our YouTube channel so please head over there and enjoy Dead Dream.

2 days Later 2011 - Shortlist

We are very chuffed to announce that our latest short - Dead Dream - has been shortlisted for this years 2 Days Later film festival and will be shown at the Theatre Royal in Margate on 29th Oct. If you fancy coming along then we can guarantee a great nights entertainment in the shape of a whole bunch of horror shorts and an after party to round out the night.
For those of you who can't make it to the screening we will be releasing Dead Dream on our YouTube channel as soon as the competition is done where it will sit alongside last years entry - Dead Time - which won us awards for Best Gore and Best Visual Effect.
In the meantime here are a couple of stills from Dead Dream to whet your appetite.

This year we tried something a little different and dropped the blood and gore in favour of suspense in the story of an abused wife who is denied the opportunity to exact revenge on her husband but who's obsession with vengeance reaches out from beyond the grave.

2 Days Later 2011

So, it has been a really long time since we last posted anything here but we haven't just been lazing around doing nothing.
You may remember that we finished filming By The Light Of The Moon before christmas and then went very quiet. Since then we have finished the edit and begun the post production phase which has already yielded some very cool results but due to the amount of VFX involved and the fact that everyone is donating their time free it is a slow process. As soon as we have some finished shots we will be putting together a trailer and letting everyone know about it.

In the meantime we have filmed and edited our entry for this years 2 Days Later comp. In 2010 we won two awards for Dead Time and we are hoping to do just as well with this years entry Dead Dream which tells the story of an abused wife who takes misguided revenge from beyond the grave.
We will be keeping the film under wraps until the comp is over but will preview some stills here as soon as the colouring is finished on the final edit.

Behind the scenes

It's been a while since the last update but we are still here and still working on the film. Editing is coming along slower than we had hoped but we are getting there and it's looking really good so far and will be worth the wait.
Originally we had hoped to have the editing done by sometime in March but that date will almost certainly get pushed back now though hopefully not by too much and in the mean time we have a little behind the scenes feature to keep entertained while you wait. It was put together by our good friends at Real Time who also leant us a whole bunch of kit for the shoot and came along to for an evening to make sure we treated their green screen with the proper respect.
The film is now live on their site and does a great job of making us sound almost like we know what we are doing so go check it out right now!

WATCH THE BEHIND THE SCENES FEATURETTE

Sunday 12 December 2010

That's a wrap.

And thats it, all finished. After a full two weeks of shooting the green screen is rolled up and the lights are all back in their bags.
It has been very tiring, sometimes frustrating and occasionally very very cold but also a lot of fun and we managed to punctuate the filming with enough eating, drinking and Call of Duty to make it feel almost like a holiday.
Now begins the next stage of logging the huge amount of footage that we have come away with. In true Red Ded Dog style we just filmed everything from every angle we could think of in the hope that this way we won't find ourselves missing that one vital shot when we finally get to the edit.
We have nothing to worry a bout though. Checking the rushes each night brought a grin to our faces without fail and seeing the first rough VFX tests just made it even bigger. There is no question that we have some great performances from a great cast and have got everything we need and more to make a really good film.
We hope to have some kind of teaser/trailer type thing to show at Stand Up Cinema on the 17th so get yourselves to that if you can. In the meantime here are some stills taken whilst shooting so you can relive the joy. This album will be expanded when we have collected all the pictures together.
